Irinka Talakhadze stumbled upon our eyes while we were scrolling though instagram. We fell in love with her gesture. She speaks from her studio full of light in Georgia.

  • Q. Tell us about yourself and how you came to be an artist…

  • A. I was born in 2000 in Tbilisi, Georgia. I can’t really pinpoint the exact moment when art appeared in my life, but for as long as I can remember, it has always been with me. My father was a great painter whose death twisted my life upside down and made me love art even more.

  • Q. What is your creative process when starting a portrait?

  • A. It consists of simple steps, here and not in order. Inspiration. Preparation. Execution. Evaluation and Adjustments.

  • Q. Your main character traits?

  • A. Ambitious, Disciplined, Creative.

  • Q. Describe your work in three words...

  • A. Impossible to replace or to find better, messy & mesmerizing.

  • -

  • Q. What's your favorite color?

  • A. I guess it depends on mood...

  • Q. Has your origins from Georgia influenced your practice in a way?

  • A. It certainly had an impact on my behaviour and thought patterns but mostly I am influenced and inspired by myself.

"My origins from Georgia certainly had an impact on my behaviour and thought patterns, but mostly I am influenced and inspired by myself."

  • Q. There is an energy of movement in your paintings. Do you somehow focus on the movement emanating from a body or form ?

  • A. I don't really like to plan the painting like most painters do. I don't have any special techniques to attract people, make mainstream art or focus on selling them. I'm just leaving my "footprint" in art history and day by day I'm trying to make it bigger so the whole world acknowledges the strength of "self taught" art.

  • Q. Who are the contemporary art figures who influenced you the most?

  • A. Egon Schiele, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali.

  • Q. If you could have diner with anyone dead or alive?

  • A. Leonardo Da-Vinci.

  • Leonardo Da Vinci, Self-portrait, 1512, Royal Library, Turin

  • Q. Are you experiencing any blocks in you practice right now ?

  • A. Great art always requires sacrifice, so as expected I have some mental blocks going on. Lack of sleep etc. But I get over anything to finish my artworks!

  • Q. What makes you laugh?

  • A. Depends on my mood. Sometimes I can even laugh about something most people would wry about.

  • Q. Your dream of happiness?

  • A. A recurring dream is that my art works get really known, all around the world and show in the most prestigious museums.

  • Q. Current state of mind?

  • A. Currently I have dedicated the past 24 hours on creating great art works. That's the only thing I am currently focused on!
